I help out at the elementary school in Compton and our PTA has been out of commission. We are trying to get some donations of backpacks for the 5th grade promotion day as a gratitude of appreciation for them. PTA would have been able to help but due to some issues they have no money to help out. We are already doing a lot of fundraisers so they could take a trip to Knotts Berry Farm and to help out with the luncheon that we want them to experience at Hometown Buffet. So parents are already donating and we just don't have enough for the backpacks and we would really like for this to happen. It would bring excitment and joy to them to get ready for the 6th grade. I would really appreciate it.

BACKPACKS NEEDED FOR SUICIDE AWARENESS & PREVENTION. Crossing Rivers Support Group is a local non-profit, community-based support group that helps individuals with issues regarding mental illness whether it be depression, abuse, suicide or loss. Our volunteers serve area youth, elderly and veterans with the main goal of being there even if it's just to listen. We are planning a Mental Health/Suicide Awareness & Prevention display called “Packing Up the Silence / Bringing a Light to the Darkness 2012”. We'll display backpacks that represent people with the above issues "packing up" the stigma associated with mental illness. During this event, there will also be a candle light vigil whereby we'll use canning jars with a name & face of a person who has been lost to suicide. Anyone dealing with mental illness, volunteers and concerned community members will be invited to participate in the candle vigil. This display will be set up in various locations in the community and we're in need of canning jars and new/used backpacks to bring awareness to this important issue. Please contact Steve Nelson if you're willing to donate to our cause at crossing.rivers@hotmail.com or (715) 938-7348.

Our church has done an annual back to school event for our community for the past two years called "Cool for School". Each year we have provided over 300 back packs to the underprivileged children in our community. We give away back packs filled with school supplies, we give free hair cuts, free clothing, free food items as well as providing the kids with a day full of carnival type games, and a meal! There have been over 600 people each year that have come to be blessed and ministered to though our event. Last year we purchased our backpack from wholesale-backpacks.com (over 400 bags were purchased). We would like to continue to bless those in need that are in our community. Any help in doing so would be greatly appreciated, as the funds for the event are always a struggle to provide for such a large turn out. Thank you in advance as we begin to plan for this years "Cool for School"!

Dear Englewood Community Business owners,
We at the Faith Temple M.B Church are concerned about how the economy has affected not only our immediate church family, but those in our community.
After much prayer, we have felt led to have a Back to School Rally. This is a great way to be able to help those who have been having trouble purchasing school supplies for their children. We will be collecting basic school supplies such as book bags, ruler paper, pens, folders and etc.
We sincerely hope that you will partner with us by either bringing your donation to the address above or if you prefer, making a financial contribution; Checks should be made payable to Faith Temple M.B Church and mailed to our church office at 6201 S. Wolcott. As always, any donation that you generously give will be tax deductible and used only for the purpose of helping the children in our community.
BACK TO SCHOOL RALLY SATURDAY AUGUST 3, 2011 62ND WOLCOTT
Should you require any additional information or if we can be of assistance to you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact our church office at 773-776-2984 or contact Mrs. Erica Williams/ Frost at 309-750-9467.
We are looking forward to our Back to School Rally and being able to help our fellow community members, and we hope you are, too!
You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:11 (NIV)

If you are able, please consider picking up a few extra things for the children of Laura Rodriguez Elementary on your next shopping trip. The 900 students of Laura Rodriguez are all from exceptionally low-income areas, and 100% of their student body qualifies for federal poverty programs and free/reduced lunches. The teachers and students of Laura Rodriguez would appreciate anything you can donate to help make their upcoming academic year a success! Built in 2007, the school's namesake, Laura G. Rodriguez (1909-1994) was a beloved Logan Heights activist who founded Chicano Park and the Logan Heights Family Health Center in San Diego. Known for her strong-willed independence and determination, Rodriguez was recognized by former President Bush in 1991 as one of the One Thousand Points of Light, and her legacy is honored in a Chicano Park mural. More than 100 community members suggested the new school be named in her remembrance. http://www.sandi.net/domain/5721

Crown of Life Ministries is a 501C3 non-profit organization headquartered in the City of Moreno Valley, California. We have recognized that many of the over 2500 students in our area are in need of basic school supplies. Crown of Life Ministries is currently planning to help these students by supplying them with backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming school year. We would like you to help us in our endeavors to make this happen by participating in our back to school program. We need backpacks and any other supplies you might be able to assist us with. In our immediate area of ministry there are two elementary and two middle schools. Please contribute whatever you can because many of these children will go to school without the basic necessities to learn. We hope you will take this opportunity to encourage and support this effort by making a donation of as many backpacks as you can. Thank you for your generous support.

To whom it may Concern: I’m writing this letter to you on behalf of Love Community Corporation Development. Our organization is a nonprofit organization with a 501C3 that is geared towards helping low income homes families and helping our youth become successful and product community leaders.
I am excited to announce our upcoming Youth Caught in Action Workshop, developed to prepare our students for a progressive and successful school year ahead. This event is essential to making our youth aware of issues they will inevitably encounter in the academic environment, and most of all in life.
The workshop will be held at 7609 Horney Road, High Point, NC 27265 from 10am-6pm on August 27th. There will be City speakers covering topics of gang activity, bullying, drug use, and self-respect. Additionally, there will be staged scenarios that will provide insight on how to handle peer pressure, and good touch/bad touch situations.
There will also be plenty of food, fun, face painting, and other festivities during this time. To add to the excitement: there will be book bags and school supplies given away, Barbers and beauticians to do hair and a health mobile unit for kids to a great school year. We are asking for your help with our upcoming workshop. We need funds to help with the activities, food and supplies being provided at this event. We’d appreciate a donation between $100.00-$500.00 in gift card, monetary gift or merchandise. Your donation will help achieve our goal for this back to school workshop/fun day.
You generous donation will be publicly acknowledged at our event through promotional announcement and fliers and prominent note in our program. We feel that your business will benefit from the community goodwill generated by your kind donation to our group.
To learn more about our event, please contact me at (336) 457-3826, or the contact information listed above. So that we may plan our event better, would you kindly let us know your decision by 8/25/2011. Thanks you for your consideration of our request, and we look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Sincerely yours,
Ella Williams Program Coordinator Angeline Sumpter CEO of Love CDC

Hi My name is Debra VanAtta. I began a project I call bookbags for the homeless. These bookbags contain shampoo, deoderant, socks gloves, hats, rain ponchos, shoe insole, hand and foot warmers, and several other things ( a list can be found @ www.bookbagsforthehomeless.com ) as I am able to afford it. I work full time making a little over minimum wage so I rely heavily on donations and store sales. It started out that I only had 35 bookbags to passout on Christmas Eve to the homeless. that was 5 years ago and the need has grown currentlyI pass out 150 refills a month and about 500 bookbags a year. I go to the actual people, in to camps and to the soup kitchens, I am able to talk to this population where they are and let them know of resources for housing food and medical care. The Fairfield County Mental Health Consumer Group has put me under their 501 3c tax exempt number which aalowes me the ability to buy items tax- exempt. In Fairfield County there was almost 400 homeless persons according to the point of count numbers, these are just the ones we could find and count and it doesn't include those that are couch surfing, Many have some kind of mental or pysical disability. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do have a couple churches that collect items for me which helps a lot and I am on the Housing Coalition for fairfield County, Ohio.
