Organization: Volunteers of America Write My Story
Volunteers of America Wyoming & Montana is a 501c3 non-profit, faith based organization. We have 23 programs throughout Wyoming and Montana. One of the services we provide is to veterans. Billings, MT has a large homeless veteran population. We will be hosting a Homeless Veteran Stand Down event in Billings on May 14th. At the Stand Down, we will be connecting our veterans with much needed services and giving them clothing, shoes, sleeping bags and other neccesities. We are in need of something for them to carry their new belongings in. We are hoping to serve 250 veterans on that day. Any assistance that you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Organization: Trinity Missionary Baptist Church/Keep It Moving Organization Write My Story
.Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and The Keep It Moving Organization will be giving away backpacks and school supplies to under privilege children at its first Back To School Festival. Trinity M.B.C. and K.I.M. Organization are coming together to help under privilege children in the community with backpacks and school supplies. The two organizations had their first event for the community together on April 3, 2010. The event was a success serving over 300 people. The two organizations came together to make a difference in people lives. Swainsboro, Georgia is the place where Trinity M.B.C. is located. Swainsboro like so many small towns across the United States are consistently looked over, because so many people and organizations are focused on the inner city kids. This is why the founder, Alicia “Dr. Li” Francis got involved in making a difference in small towns. Dr. Li was born and raised in a small town. She sees herself in so many of the youth, when she comes in contact with children in a small town. It reminds her that people in small towns are just as important as other people in larger cities. Trinity M.B.C and K.I.M. Organization saw that so many of the people who actually live in these small towns needs to be motivated for various reasons. So, the two organizations came together and had one event, and is currently working on their second event for the community. Trinity M.B.C. and K.I.M. Organization experienced what the first event in April did for this community, and has already started to prepare to uplift the people in this community again with the Back To School Festival by giving away 300 backpacks.

Organization: World Harvest Christian Ministry, Inc Write My Story
Every year the World Harvest Christian Ministry hold an annual back to school Festival. Our goal is to give back to the community. We accomplish this by giving away free school uniforms, paper, pencils, and bookbags to low income and less fortuanate families. We partner with other companies and ask for donations of these supplies. Some of our partners even attend the event and come out to help distribute the supplies. We will be so grateful for any amount of clear and or mesh bookbags your company can donate, no amount is too large or too small. Last year we were able to help over 500 families and this year we anticipate helping even more. Thank You Pastor Frankie Smith

Organization: The Salvation Army Write My Story
I am a coordinator for the Salvation Army Marin. We are looking to supply 600+ backpacks and school supplies in June for under priveledged children. Our area has a lot of under the carpet homelessness. The reason why I mention the word under the carpet is because we are noted as having the most beautiful mansions and views in the world. Many of our children and their families are swept under the carpet and are ignored. Our organization doesn't just look under carpets, we help regardless of background or affiliations. You can assist by atleast pointing me in the direction of how I can help those in need. Thank D.L, Ruiz

Organization: Junior League of San Joaquin County Write My Story
Junior League of San Joaquin County as a part of its literacy program launched a back to school back pack program in 2009. We adopted an inner-city school that is plagued with low test scores, non-participating parents, and transient families. The back packs are filled with curriculum based, age appropriate materials for grades 1-3. In some cases these back packs are the sole possession of these children. We would like to extend our program for the 2010 new school year. We are asking for help to offset our cost so that we may fill the backpacks with school supplies that the classrooms cannot provide or to extend our program to serve grades 1-5. We would recongnize your support in all publications. Please see our website www.jlsjc.org phot album for Pittman school. We appreciate your consideration of our request. Best Regards, Michelle JLSJC Backpack Chair

Organization: Charlotte White Center Write My Story
The CWC Angels is a grassroots effort of the non profit (301c) Charlotte White Center. For 10 years we have organized and sponsored a unique back to school program for underprivileged children in rural communities of Maine. Students, K-12, can register in June. They then receive a checkbook in which they make deposits through good deeds and positive actions. The then visit our temporary store in August (2 locations), cash in their checkbook, and select school supplies and clothing for a successful start to their school year. Although many organizations provide school supplies, what makes us unique is that we have based this project around life skills objectives. Children learn about taking responsibility, how to use a checkbook, reinforce math skills, and appropriate decision making and budgeting ( "within my budget, should I choose the budget scissors or spring for the deluxe?"). As a non profit agency working with families, we also promote ways in which parents can be interactive with this experience. We feel it is just as important for a child and family, in time of hardship, to be able to hold their head up as it is to obtain these very much needed school supplies. Within the parameters of this project, we give children and their parents the tools to help themselves. The pride is evident in both the faces of our "customers" and in the number of parents who get involved and accompany their children to the store; helping them to manage their money and make appropriate choices. Where, once, a child was typically accompanied by a social worker or case manager, now 75% of children visit us with their parent(s). Our project is primarily funded by our own employees. Many support this project through payroll giving and participating in our fund raisers held during the year. As proud as we are of our staff and our accomplishments, we are faced with the fact that the needs are fast outpacing our resources. To make our budget stretch, we rely on finding as many supplies as possible on clearance after the shopping season. Because we are rural, that can be difficult. This project now serves approximately 500 children each year (and expect for the number to increase next year) and have been unable to find enough backpacks within our budget. Compounding this dilemma, although younger students can make do with more lightweight bags, older students need sturdier, more expensive ones. Whether poor or comfortable, all students have the same number of textbooks to carry back and forth. We are not asking for a handout. We are simply looking for a way to provide backpacks to these children and make our limited resources stretch as far as possible. We would appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you for considering our request. Sincerely, Debra Smith CWC Angels making a difference in our community
